He had on an oxford yellow shirt with khaki slacks, brown belt and loafers. His wire rim glasses were near the end of his nose as he studies his hand under a magnify glass. His dark brown hair was slicked back with heavy gel. He was gaunt and tall, even when sitting down at the fake mahogany desk.
“Benj?” Deck tapped his shoulder. What looked back at him were slitted gold brown eyes. Deck stepped back and looked down, noting the paper and the hand that was writing on it and the magnifying glass held close to it. The hand had grown shrewishly thin, the nails starting to thin and come closer together, like dog claws.
“Don’t look.” Benj hid the paw-like hand in his lap under the desk.
“Benj, what’s happening to you?” Nat demanded.
“It’s happening to you guys too,” Benj replied, looking up at them. He pointed them to Sun Hee’s makeup mirror in the corner of the living room. “Look.”
“Seen enough already, would rather not.” Deck waived off his friend.
Benj shrugged. “RWE bomb hit last night,” Benj informed them.
Deck grunted, “yeah, saw the paper.”
“I’m betting this new chemical was a waist of testing on wolves. I read months back about new testing on wolves to create the master breed, ones that could hunt longer, face bone chilling cold far longer than any human could, and could kill with ten times the intensity as any normal wolf. The waist was saved for this bomb, I guess. This is what’s happening to us, at least, that’s what I’m assuming,” Benj said matter-of-factly.
